Welcome to Type One Writers!

Type One Writers is a worldwide penpal club open to anyone living with Type 1 diabetes. Our mission is to connect and empower Type 1 warriors of all ages and nationalities, (including parents and carers of Type 1 warriors) through the good old fashioned method of handwritten letters, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to your interactions.

We pride ourselves on building community. We know how challenging and isolating it can feel to live with Type 1 – we are also living with it. We make it more accessible for you to connect with people who understand your daily joys and battles.

For a small, one off membership fee, all Type One Writers members are matched with a penpal, and receive a bespoke stationery starter pack which includes:
2 x illustrated postcards
2 x illustrated writing papers
2 x Type One Writers stickers
1 x branded envelope
handwritten welcome letter

Upon sign up, we’ll send out your stationery starter pack and in the meantime, we’ll do all we can to find the perfect match for you. Once we’ve found you a match, your penpal details will be sent to you via email. (Please ensure that you provide an email address that is checked regularly.)

We have recently received some funding which allows us to cover international postage costs for the foreseeable future. This means that all memberships will have the same investment regardless of where in the world you live – YAY! Membership is open to Type 1 warriors of any age (including parents and carers of Type 1 warriors) living anywhere in the world. If completing the registration form for your child, please enter their name, age and diagnosis details, and your contact details.
